Acquiring and Distributing Knowledge Regarding God's Creation

14 "Listen to this, Job;  stop and consider God's wonders."  (Job 37:14, NIV)

Dear friend of the GHCA,
Our next meeting is on March 27th.  Mark you calendar and reserve the time!

For the next two meetings I will bring presentations on the important and exciting developments in creationist cosmology that has been happened in the last few years. Our goal will be to understand the creationist cosmological work of an Australian physics professor, Dr. John Hartnett, who has published two books: Dismantling the Big Bang and Starlight, Time and the New Physics. Hartnett’s cosmology seems to offer a solid physical mechanism that can explain how light from extremely distant stars and galaxies arrive here in the timeframe of a young creation. Further, the new theory seems to explain several lines of observational data that the Big Bang scenario has not. Of course all new theories need to stand the test of scrutiny over time but this work looks to be at the very least a giant step in the right direction.

In the first presentation we will we will take an in depth look at the essential principles of cosmology and how they work together in the Big Bang scenario. We will pay particular attention to the foundational assumptions of the Big Bang and look at some of its history. We will consider if a particular philosophical assumption is a fatal flaw. In 1994 Dr. Russell Humphreys proposed a departure from that particular assumption to take the first major step forward in creation cosmology. We will look at both the strengths and weaknesses of Humphrey’s cosmology.
Dr. Hartnett used Humphrey’s work as a stepping off point and the work of an Israeli theoretical physicist named Carmeli as a stepping stone to arrive at his new creationist cosmology. Next month we will take a good look at Carmeli and Hartnett. Then we will compare a range of observational evidence to all the theories and see which theory fits the evidence best. Let the fittest theory survive!

Creation Cosmology, Part One
By Frank Mayo
7 PM, Room 258
Houston’s First Baptist Church

This is really important and exciting material. But don’t be fearful of the weird complexities of cosmology! I will be careful to be informative to the novice. At the same time this work will be sure to challenge the technically informed. Come join our adventure on both 3/2 and 4/24.

See you there!

Frank Mayo

2.  ICR STILL NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT!
If you have not already done so, you might take a few moments to write an encouraging note to Dr. Paredes.

While the date of a 'decision' by the THECB has been postponed, they are subjecting ICR to unprecedented scrutiny, and have even paid the Darwinists for their opinions on what they should do!  Particularly if you teach, have science and engineering backgrounds, and especially any professors or PhDs, please write Dr. Paredes a politely worded note in support of ICR.  (The good news is that letters/emails have thus far been running overwhelmingly in favor of the ICR application--what politicians would call a "landslide" of support).  Dr. Paredes email is:  Raymund.Paredes@thecb.state.tx.us

The ICR Graduate School (ICRGS) has been coming under intense fire since even our last newsletter, as the Darwinists cannot tolerate any interpretation of the facts that is contrary to their own mostly atheist worldview.  Dr. Henry Morris recently wrote in part:

"Please pray for us. This is, obviously, a huge undertaking for ICR—but, more importantly, it is a major frontal shot aimed at the bow of the whole issue before the Texas Education Authority (TEA), which will be considering the Science Education Standards for Texas in a meeting later this month. That is important because Texas is often the front runner in such changes across the nation. Texas has long led the nation in textbook standards, and has been the scene of a recent battleground over science texts. Thus, ICR and the THECB have become the "test case" in this battle now on the front burner in Texas education and politics.
bulletPray for the THECB Commissioner, Dr. Raymund Paredes, and his staff, that they will see the difference between experimental science (laboratory research) and forensic science (interpretations of present data about historical events). ICR teaches exactly the same experimental science as any university, but we have a very different perspective when it comes to forensic science (origins, pre-history). Pray that such distinctions will be made clear.
bulletAlso pray that we (and any who write to the Commissioner on our behalf) will remain gracious and truthful in our responses.
bulletPray, too, that ICR will be able to prepare both sufficient and clarifying materials to the THECB that will encourage them to grant approval for us to continue the work of the ICRGS without restrictions.
Finally, if you would feel comfortable writing (or emailing) a kind note of encouragement to Dr. Paredes thanking him for his attempt to be fair in our evaluation, and also expressing your support for the Christian perspective of origins (a better word than creation), it may help Dr. Paredes understand that there are substantial numbers of educated people in this nation who are not persuaded by the evolutionary theories of life.
The address for the THECB is as follows:
Dr. Raymund Paredes
Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board
1200 East Anderson Lane
Austin, TX 78752-1743
Email for Dr. Paredes is Raymund.Paredes@thecb.state.tx.us
Thank you for taking time to read this and to pray.
Sincerely,
Dr. Henry Morris III
CEO, Institute for Creation Research"
If you can take the time to write Dr. Paredes a kindly worded thoughtful note, even if short, please do so.  As I mentioned before, given the outrage by the Darwinists, a quote by C.S. Lewis comes to mind.

"I wish I were younger. What inclines me now to think you may be right in regarding [evolution] as the central and radical lie in the whole web of falsehood that now governs our lives is not so much your arguments against it as the fanatical and twisted attitudes of its defenders."
2.1.  ICR has a job opening for an assistant professor.  If you have an earned PhD in a relevant science, please contact Dr. Patti Nason at pnason@icr.org.

3.1  Dallas Fort Worth Creation Group --
Our friend Dr. Don Patton sends word that the Metroplex Institute of Origin Science (MIOS) will holds their meetings the first Tuesday of each month, at 7:30pm at the Dr. Pepper Starcenter, 12700 N. Stemmons Freeway, Farmers Branch, TX.
3.2  San Antonio Creation Group --
The San Antonio Bible Based Science Association (SABBSA) holds its meetings on the second Tuesday of each month.
3.3  Other Creation Groups?

If you know of other creation groups meeting on a regular basis, or of other creation events around the state or nation, please let us know so we can help others know about it.

If you have friends or family in the San Antonio or DFW areas, please let them know about these groups!

4.1.  Online "Radio" from ICR:

If you haven't checked it lately, the Institute for Creation Research's website has been undergoing changes, in look and in content.  Just in case you didn't know, you can get short (15 minute) weekly radio programs at http://www.icr.org/radio/.  Note that Houston's KHCB radio also carries the programs several times during the weekend.

The March programs include:
bullet
Apes, the Flood, and Age of Fossils
bullet
Design of Fruit Trees

bullet
Marine Deserts
bullet
Science of the Crucifixion
bullet
Star Light, Star Bright
These can be listened to online at http://www.icr.org/radio/ and 2008 listings here.

4.2.  Sunday morning radio/Internet audio:

For a somewhat different perspective, you might try listening to "The Things That Matter Most" on Houston's KSEV 700 AM radio at 9:00 a.m. Sundays.  Lael Arrington and Rick Davis host the show that has open and probing discussions with leaders on "both sides" of the origins (and other) issues.  Guests in the past have included Dr. Michael Behe, Dr. Ben Wiker, Dr. Francis Collins, Rob Crowther, Lee Stroebel, UT Professor J. Budziskzewski, Nancy Pearcy (author of "Total Truth"), and Dr. Phillip Johnson, and many more.  Many of these programs can also be listened to online at: http://www.thethingsthatmattermost.org/gallery.htm

5.  Texas' State Board of Education Race Heats Up - Race Results!

Both conservatives that were challenging entrenched incumbents failed to win.  Ironically, in the most contested race, the conservative candidate did not campaign on fighting evolution, while the incumbent (who has voted against us at every turn in the past) indicated her support of intelligent design.  Let's hope and pray that she meant what she said and will now be voting with the "social conservatives" on the SBOE.

6.  The International Conference on Creationism-2008 is right around the corner.  This premier scientific conference features 40+ original peer-reviewed papers and special evening presentations by the world’s leading creation science researchers and speakers; including Andrew Snelling, Russ Humphreys, John Baumgardner, John Sanford, John Whitmore, John Hartnett and many more…the upcoming ICC in is to be held in Pittsburgh PA August 3-7, 2008. More information is at  www.icc08.org .
